SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
All activities take place during out-of -school time. Students and mentors select activities based on their particular interest. It’s a great way for the mentors and mentees to bond and get to know each other. Structured activities are held on Saturday mornings between 8:30am-2:00pm, except for dinner and movie nights, which take place the second or third Friday of the month.
The boys do archery with Bwana Archery. The training consist of beginner archery training.
BOXING & FITNESS
The boys workout with Element Boxing in St. Paul. The training consist of beginner boxing lessons.
Mentees learn outdoor skills with Outward Bound, where it's about more than the thrills. These courses help the boys find determination and develop a community based on respect and team work.
The boys do fencing with Minnesota Sword Club. The training consist of beginner fencing training.
The boys do Judo at Rice Street Recreation Center. The training consist of beginner Judo training.
Mentees learn skills on how to plant food within urban areas of Minnesota.
NEW LENS YOUTH FOUNDATION
Our Youth Foundation is a youth-led grant-making organization, which funds projects that will improve the quality of life for local communities. It focuses on teaching young African American men about philanthropy and how to leverage funds to have positive impacts.
Our New Lens Youth Foundation is a collaboration between New Lens and Youth Bank. YouthBank is unique in that it puts money directly into the hands of young people who decide on how it will be spent. For more information about YouthBank, click here.
Want To Make A Proposal?
A Request for Proposal (RFP) provides the requirements for an open and competitive grant proposal. We will be re-granting funds on a two cycle basis, once in the spring, and then again during the summer. Proposals for the spring round of funds will be accepted until 12am CST February 29, 2017. While proposals for the summer round of funds will begin being accepted March 1, 2017 and accepted until 12am CST June 30, 2017. Any proposals received after these dates and times, for either of the two funding cycles, will be rejected and returned to sender. All proposals must be signed by an official agent or representative of the non-profit, school, or community organization submitting the proposal.
